Summer Solstice...
I'm not really a "car person". That title would fit my husband. Despite not living in the United States, having a driver's license, or even having his name on the title of a car until he was 28, he knows cars inside and out. He can take a quick glance at any car we pass on the road and tell me the make, model, and year. What IS that? Is this something that comes attached to the Y chromosome? Is it more fully present the more testosterone one has? One of my favorite stories my dad and I like to tell about my husband is how we took him to a car show shortly after he came to the States, and promptly lost him, only to find him two hours later with two plastic bags filled to ripping with flyers and brochures.
Anyway, I don't know cars like my husband does. But I do like me a few models. Mustangs are cool, if they're the really old ones, or the really new ones. Hummers. They crack me up. Do we REALLY need to drive a vehicle so wide it needs a "WIDE LOAD" warning on the back, and that guzzles so much gas that it funds a small Middle Eastern country? The answer to those questions is, of course, no. But I still think Hummers are cool.
But then today, I got some junk mail from GM. And I saw THIS:

It's a 2006 Pontiac Solstice, and I am IN. LOVE.
Pure consumerism, I know. We have two vehicles, including the requisite minivan for families with children. Actually, we currently have THREE vehicles, because my husband has not yet disposed of the '89 Olds Cutlass that has "fallen asleep" and needs to be towed to that great carlot in the sky. There is no justification for the purchase of such a snazzy car, especially a NEW snazzy car. We always buy used.
But at least for now, the Mustang dream has been set aside. I can just picture myself driving this car, top down, aviator sunglasses on.

I guess it depends on how you define car person. I prefer a car that runs rountinely. Sans duct tape is a good thing. But, I can do many car repairs. Thats out of necessity, not fun or a burning desire to acquire that knowledge. I could easily love a lexus. :-)
Dawn, I know what you mean...I've been coming to appreciate my husband's new (to him) Concorde.
Lawbrat (and now I'm going to be confused since there are now TWO Dawns who regularly read me!), being able to do repairs is good. I can't do too much myself. It's a good day if I can check the oil while I'm filling the gas. But Leo...the only reason he doesn't CHANGE the oil himself anymore is he's too dang busy. He loves Auto Zone :)
I have driven a Lexus, and Yeah, very nice.
My dream car is a 1997 Mazda Miata, cerulean blue. DOF says it will be my change-of-life status symbol. My sister already has a Miata in burgundy, and she let me sit in it, but not drive it, not even around the block. Sometimes sisters are just plain mean....
Ooh, that car IS purty. I've been drooling over the mini Coopers lately.
The only car thing I know is that it's cool to say "This thing corners like it's on rails." And I learned that from watching Pretty Woman.
mrsdof, yep, I don't know much about cars, but I know about mean sisters!
Kalki, YES! Those Mini Coopers are sweet-looking...the Solstice reminds me a little of those.
I'll always use lawbrat, so there is no confusion. Actually, when you commentnted, and wrote Dawn, I was confused because it wasent me. :-) Then I saw lawbrat...was like..ok, got it now.
Forgive me, I'm just now drinking coffee.
Spoonleg, is THAT how Paris spells it? H-O-T-T? :) I guess I don't quite know how to be a Hilton yet!
Lawbrat, the first time Dawn left a comment (and I read it in e-mail first), I thought it was from you at first! Then I remembered, oh yeah, she comments as "Lawbrat", duh...
Nice nice car...I favor convertibles...have to have one and have had one most of my life...
I adore my Cabrio but ...that Pontiac Solstice has my heart thumping...so I guess I am a car person.
