Good news/bad news

Good news: I got up early enough today to potentially get three loads of laundry done.
Bad news: When I returned from taking Audrey to school (after a two-hour delay due to cold temperatures), I found Leo and his sister mopping up water in the laundry room and kitchen. Apparently a drainage pipe froze.

Good news: Leo's sister caught the flood before it could get to the hardwood floor in the breakfast area and living room.
Bad news: The water did, however, flood the hardwood floor in the laundry room and kitchen.

Good news: The water, which leaked through the floor to the basement, leaked into the one room that does not have carpet, but tile on the floor.
Bad news: Most of the water that leaked into the basement flooded the object of Leo's favorite leisure activity, the pool table.

Good news: The water did not cover the WHOLE pool table.
Bad news: It's going to leave a watermark stain.

Good news: Leo found the troublesome pipe and heard water trickling through it, so the ice must have melted.
Bad news: The pipe was built INTO THE WALL of the house, right below ground level. Additional freezing is likely if insulation is not added.

Leo thinks he figured out a way to fix this. But the top of his pool table is ruined, we think there is still water in the space between the main level floor and the basement ceiling, and I'm already seeing possible warping in the hardwood floor.

BUT...

The best news of all?

COLTS RULE!!! NFL champions, woohoo!!! Last night was so fun, just watching the game on TV. I can't even imagine what it would have been like to be there. I admit Leo and I were horrified at the opening play, when the "dangerous rookie" made a 92-yard run from the kickoff to score for the Bears. But as the Colts caught up, and then overtook the Bears, we started to just enjoy the game for what it was: a once-in-a-lifetime moment for our team. And then they won!

(And the icing on the cake was hearing one of my faves, Billy Joel, sing the national anthem.)

My favorite moment was not on the field, but when a couple of the Colts players dumped jugs of water and Gatorade on coach Tony Dungy's head. As if the poor guy wasn't drenched enough already from the rain! But the look on his face, the joy of getting to experience even this traditional prank, was priceless.

My sympathies to those partial to Chicago, and also to my several Maryland (once and current) readers.

Hopefully just a watermark stain and not a warped surface!

UGGGGGGH and I'm SOOOO sorry for this to have happened. *hug*
At least there were people there to stop a total disaster from happening.

Hopefully also you can get floors dried out (heaters and fans, anyone?) so there's no serious damage...

As you know, I was (half-heartedly) for Chicago. But I also really wanted Dungy to get the win. It seemed the right thing to me, so I was happy for that.

SO sorry about the water! Gah! That's especially sickening in a house that's still new to you. I hope it doesn't cause too much trouble in the long run...(poor Leo's pool table).
