Humor me
One more on the Google Earth thing, and then I'll stop.
39 48'27"N, 99 03'15"E. It's possibly an old section of the Great Wall, found by a guy who frequents Sightseeing with Google Maps (which I forgot to link to last time!). He also recently found the other Great Wall image (among others) that I posted last time. I want you to see this so badly I'm even going to give you a link here to where he originally posted the image. I like my coordinates a little better because you can see where the road crosses it, which is what I have to comment on. I'll just copy and paste what I wrote at SWGM:
It's like someone walking over my grave. New crossing old.
One other little side note. I have now entered the 21st century. Actually, most people did this in the 20th century, but I officially joined modern times July 22, 2006 at about 10:30 a.m.
I got a cell phone.
I have mixed feelings about this leap. It will make certain aspects of my life more convenient, to be sure. But if you are among the lucky few to be given my cell phone number (and I won't be passing it out like candy to people in real life, believe me), don't be surprised if it's rarely on. I frequently let our answering machine pick up the *land line* even when I'm home. I'm not going to be tied to this thing. It will be on only when I'm making an outgoing call, or am expecting a particular incoming call.
However...I am having fun playing with it. I already changed my ringtone. I had to pay a buck to download one that I liked, but you can thank Kristine and her kids at Random and Odd for my choice: Bohemian Rhapsody, by Queen. Unfortunately, she's already taken down the hilarious video of her girls lipsynching and headbanging to this song, but it lives on in the memory of every Random and Odd fan.

Wow...lots of Google Earth images give me goosebumps, but this...where the road crosses the old wall...goosebumps on my goosebumps, I'm telling you.

4 Comments:
1) I love Google Earth, too. The girls will sit on my lap and we go sightseeing together, they love it!
2) Welcome to the 21st century. Now that you are here, you'll notice other handy things from electric stoves (no longer have to slave over the ol' fire!) to hair dryers (no more hanging your head out the side of the wagon!).
Just give it time. You'll become a cell-head just like the rest of us depraved people.
I had a cell phone for a few years but I never used all my minutes and I got rid of it when I was saving up for adoption expenses. I think I probably need to get another one for the school year, just so I can keep in touch with my boys. But I'm not really a phone person, so I'm going to get one of those pay-as-you-go kind. When my oldest is away at college I think we can just chat online. iChat with video... If I wait a bit longer I can skip the phone technology and go with whatever comes next, right?
One thing that bugs me is when you see parents with kids at the playground and they are talking on the phone instead of playing with their kids.
sheryle, I still hate electric stoves. Did you read that other post about how that was the one thing about that house that I was not crazy about?
cloudscome, see, I'm just not a phone chatter anyway. I would not likely even have the phone turned on at the park, let alone be neglecting my kids while abusing it ;)
Lol, yes, I did. I don't blame you. I had a gas stove at my last house and this one is electric. Bums me out.
